Enhancing cyber security for the UK Ministry of Defence
Managing and securing digital infrastructure is a growing challenge, especially for large organisations, with vast amounts of information across multiple systems. The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) faced similar challenges, with data often siloed and not fully up-to-date. As a result, achieving a unified, accurate view of the MOD’s cybersecurity landscape was difficult. These challenges, compounded by the complexity of cross-domain solutions, underscored the need for a comprehensive and reliable approach to network security.
Bridging the gaps in cyber security management
Nortal was tasked with designing and implementing a secure architecture to provide a comprehensive and reliable cyber security framework. The goal was to deliver a consolidated view of the MOD’s gateways and networks, facilitating informed decision-making for senior leaders and operational teams.

Our team developed a comprehensive Recognised Cyber Picture (RCP) to inform the dynamic decision making process, and therefore the cyber force protection of the enterprise. Through centralised information management and rigorous data validation, we eliminated organisational silos and established a single source of truth. The innovative cross-domain architecture enabled secure, efficient communication between classified and unclassified environments, maintaining the highest security standards while enhancing operational effectiveness.
