Highlights included insights into the Port of Tallinn’s pioneering efforts in digital innovation, which cover all aspects of terminal operations with potential for full-scale automation and advanced data orchestration.  

    Key topics discussed included the implementation of AI-based vision technology for vehicle and passenger identification, personalized customer experiences through digital guidance and AI assistants, and sustainable practices enhanced by smart technologies. The event also featured a deep dive into identity verification processes, highlighting solutions for remote staff and passenger verification, seamless travel enrollment, and integration of NFC-based document verification and facial matching. 

    Participants emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making, with discussions on the benefits of real-time data capture, personalized offers, and predictive analytics. Nortal’s vision for the future encompasses logistics integration, digitally assisted inland terminals, and the use of AR glasses for operational staff to access real-time information, aiming to create a seamless and efficient travel experience. It was concluded by all that it is most important to stay open-minded, flexible and choose partners who have experience in modernizing ports. 

    The roundtable concluded with a discussion on the obstacles and future steps for smart port projects, encouraging continued collaboration and innovation in the maritime industry.
