Introduction: The “shift-left” philosophy has started to be a common pattern companies use to enable delivery teams more autonomy. This philosophy shifts the traditional operations teams into a reliability mindset.
Focusing on reliability requires applications to share information about their health. Traditional health systems focus on “CPU”, “IOPS” and/or “RAM” usage, but this is no longer sufficient in a distributed cloud native solution.
This talk will deep dive into the three primary areas of observability; application-level metrics, logging and tracing. We will cover modern techniques on implementing a comprehensive observability strategy and how to tie all three areas together. Our deep dive will teach you to increase time-to-resolution, decrease debugging time and expose business-level metrics that are useful for Operations teams and Business owners alike.
NOTE: This talk will cover the principles behind the tools and will be delivered as a tool-agnostic approach.
