eID Authentication

Governments and private service providers are facing challenges to offer their customers a secure and reliable eID authentication process.

Individual identities are based on unique set of characteristics by which a person is known. In the process of authenticating an individual, you validate the same credentials received in real time against registered dataset. Required datasets might include a cryptographic token (such as smartcard) with corresponding activation codes (PIN) and/or biometrics. This creates the eID Authentication.

Authentication of a national eID is usually a 2-phase process. First, a phsyical entity held by the person (such as an ID-card). Second, a password-like code known by the person (such as a PIN-code). Utilizing information on state issued eID will provide all necessary confirmation of a persons identity.

The purpose of an authentication solution with national eID is to develop a sustainable business and operating platform that supports delivery of a live commercial and public service. This solution creates a base that both private and public sector services can rely on.

Authentication mechanism relies on common identity management. In addition, service providers must apply standardized access management systems that will allow communication across various operating systems, applications, and web-based SSO products.
