Manufacturing Execution

The Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is the cockpit from which all the activities on the factory floor can be controlled and monitored.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in general are not designed to manage production in such detail and flexibility as is required by today’s manufacturing industry.

MES is precisely the opposite. MES collects data in real-time from machines, material and people in the production process. It controls and optimizes manufacturing execution, and communicates with automation. This creates an increase in productivity. Work orders are completed more efficiently and there is less waste in material flow. With detail level control as well as shorter response time to changes, lead times in production become shorter. Production also becomes more cost-effective.

MES is an integral part of the Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) system domain of companies. MOM includes production, warehouse, quality and maintenance operations. In order to make overall production management proactive, companies often integrate their MES with their APS (Advanced Planning and Scheduling), APM (Asset Performance Management), QMS (Quality Management System) or ERP system in adherence with the rest of the company’s functions. Accurate data from MES makes further decision making and forecasting in business more grounded in solid data.

How can Nortal help with Manufacturing Execution?

MES is an essential part of Industry 4.0. You shouldn’t think of it as another factory IT system. Instead, you should see it as a fundamental change in your way of working. Its implementation brings about significant changes to processes and therefore knowledge and experience of manufacturing processes are critical. Nortal has a long history in the manufacturing industry. We can deliver the best-in-breed MES solutions and also help redesign processes and fit MES to your existing system architecture.

Software Suite for Manufacturing Execution

Aimtec DCIxMES

DCIxMES collects data directly from machines in real time. This allows you to get up-to-date information anywhere and anytime.

DCIxMES can work both independently as well as integrated with ERP, APS, WMS and other systems. MES provides these systems exact information about the real status of production. DCIxMES is also designed to get a detailed overview of up-to-date order statuses in production, including statements of personnel and production facility activities and their utilization. The finished manufactured parts are written off automatically, and the system alone orders necessary material for smooth production process. Operative commands and idle time reasons can be entered manually, too. Hence, the resulting reports provide a comprehensive overview of working hours, idle times, facility utilization, properly produced and rejected parts, so the weak points in the production process can be revealed and eliminated.
